This year I didn’t notice as many trends as I have in previous years. Is that because there were no clear trends, or because there were too many to count?! It is hard to say.
It was time to hash over some lessons learned with my last completed quilting project. The big one: jelly rolls aren’t precisely cut to the size the label says they are! I wish I had taken a pic of Noelle’s quilt before I gave it to her but I managed to forget. Maybe she’ll be nice and send me one. Hint hint! However here is what the pattern looks like from Eleanor Burns’ site, Quilt in a Day. Isn’t it adorable? I love the color combo she used.

Also if you participated in the May Mayhem, you can grab the button over on the sidebar and put it on your blog. You should be able to copy the code in the box and paste it into a text widget on your own site. Enjoy
Thank you for listening!

Oh ok. I’ll add “Photograph Quilt” to my tasks for today. Right after “change and feed crying baby.”
Thanks for the cool badge of honor! I appreciate it greatly. It looks very cool on my blog.
Congratulations on the slogging and staying with it! I hope you are making the progress on your weight loss that you desire.
I did not know that about the jelly rolls! I always assumed they were die cut and therefore never thought to measure. AAAAARGH!!!! (And I’m also a very inaccurate cutter. Which is why I bought an Accuquilt Go!)
For me EMBELLISHMENTS come under the category of JUST BECAUSE WE CAN SHOULD WE??? Embellishment are used in the ART QUILTS as part of the design process and they are usually an integral part of the project. But on a bed quilt although they may look nice and add pizazza initially they do not hold up over time. A couple of years ago I added a FLANGE to a boarder when that was popular thing to do but as the quilt gets used the flange gets twisted and mishapen…. looking down right tacky. The same holds true for folded fabric flowers, 3-D ornamentations, piping and other embellishments. I like thread painting, but coaching and bobbin embroidery does not seem to hold up very well.
I think what dictates the use of embellishments is what kind of use you are planning for the quilt or project. How long do you plan to use the quilt/ project? If it is an heirloom quilt … simple is better… if it is for a child/ toddler / teen who’s interest and change you can go all out with embellishments.
I think that the reason embellishments went out of fashion since last year is that many quilters found out that embellishment can detract from a project as well as add to it. To embellish a quilt requires more work on a projects, sometimes the results did not live up to the expectations..

I enjoyed your podcast. I just wanted to make a small comment; “life happens” and since podcasts are gifts from you to us, we should just be thankful for your contribution – THANKS! Good on you for the exercise.
And thanks for the mention about bias binding – I have been quilting for years & years and just did not realize that was the reason for using it. I use both, but probably will now just use bias.
Excuse me? As a post menopausal woman, where do I get my memory back? *smile* I haven’t seen it years.
I love your podcast. I think the husband is jealous of the fun you have! Thanks for all the work you go to.
