Podcast #5 – Giveaway!

My friend Robin has informed me that I must add pictures to the blog.  So this time I have some photos to show.  Thanks for the tip, Robin!

Tea Cozy

The giveaway: to enter the drawing, leave a comment on this blog post.  If you’d like to have a second entry, mention on your blog that I am doing a giveaway and link to this post.  Then leave a comment with a link to your post.  To the left there is a pic of my hand holding up a tea cozy.  That’s a view of the inside pockets.  Tea included!  Yum!

You might be wondering what it was the Tooth Fairy brought for The Girl - two 50 cent pieces for the first tooth and one 50 cent piece for the second.  We thought at first we might give her something extra special to take the sting out of it for her.  (Ok, maybe the sting-reduction was more for us than her.)  But The Boy told her what to expect and 1) she was totally thrilled with that and 2) we did not want The Boy to feel his Tooth Fairy visits yielded lesser results just because his teeth fell out without novacaine and pincers.

Other photos:  My coat-in-progress, which is from the Project Runway Simplicity pattern number 2812:

CoatThe black and white part is the lining.  I got all of my fabric for it from Fabric.com.

And here is the first completed sunburst block of the year.  I finished it last weekend at The Girl’s ballet class and it has been scrunched up in her ballet bag since then, so pardon the wrinkles.

And last but not least, here is the center of the Round Robin exchange that I am working to add a border to:

The owner is planning a three-dimensional beak that will be appliqued to the chicken.

    Kelley,
I hope your daughter is doing well. I’m sure she is beautiful even without those front teeth. Your coat looks great and the round robin also! I do enjoy your podcast and hearing what you are working on. I am a tea drinker for sure
so pick me!! The tea cozy will go to good use since I carry around my own tea bags since ones you get out at a meal are usually old or not great brands of tea!
Hope your midnight shifts are going well, I would find that very hard.
    Emily

  2. Corinne says:

I think that little tea cozy is really cute. I had a hard time imagining it and the pictures on the blog are wonderful!

  3. Noelle says:

Oh….my poor girl! Give her lots of hugs!

Your coat is coming together really well. The way Winter just continues to hold us in a death grip, you’ll probably get to wear it a few times before Spring! (Assuming spring comes. I am not so sure, atm.)

  4. Diane says:

I love your podcast and the tea cozy is very innovative. I would love to have a chance at winning one of them. I take tea bags to work so one of them would be put to good use.

I also do all of my quilting by hand. Mostly applique around 4 in the morning, so that is when I listened to your podcast this morning. I started quilting in the early hours 18 years ago after my youngest son was born. I have 3 other kids and I am a professor so I desperately needed some time to myself. After the baby nursed at 4 am, I would stay up and quilt. This centered me for the rest of the busy day. I done it every day for the past 18 years, and I have many wonderful quilts to show for it. I love to watch the sunrise and listen to the sounds of silence.

  5. Colleen says:

I feel so bad for your little girl. Hopefully the visit from the tooth fairy made her feel better.

I’m enjoying your podcasts, Kelley. And I’d love to win your prize!

Kelley – Glad to hear from you again! I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. Something similar happened to my son when he was seven. He had an absess that he was afraid to tell us about; by the time we knew about it they could not save the tooth. This has caused problems in the future as teeth shifted when they shouldn’t have.

I did start a podcast and it showed up on iTunes today. If you get a chance check out my blog and podcast.

  7. Robin says:

Hi Kelley! Thanks for posting the pictures! Give The Girl some hugs for me. Poor thing. I’m sure the visit from the Tooth Fairy helped a little. Can’t wait to see the new coat in person!

BTW, you can leave me out of the drawing, I just wanted to comment! :) Save the space for your fans! Congrats on hitting 100!

  8. Jane says:

I enjoy your podcasts very much.

    There isn’t many hand-”quiltmakers” out there. I feel I have a hand-quilting companion!

Hi Kelley- I have enjoyed your show since the start. It takes me a good couple of hours to download, as I have dial-up, but they are worth it! I too, am a garment sewer in addition to quilting, so I can appreciate all the hard work on your coat, it’s great! Also, your blocks are beautiful:o)

Please enter me in the drawing for the nice prize!

  11. Lauretta6 says:

Love your podcast. I think I missed the drawing date but I want to say Hi.
I learned about your site from Annie Smith and Alison’s podcast. Aren’t they the best. Keep up the good work. You give a lot of good info. Thanks.
After you talk about a book, please repeat the title and author so we do not have to go back and find out by scrolling back in your podcast. Sometimes we are doing other things when we listen and might miss some things.

  12. June says:

Your sunburst block is very pretty. I look forward to listening to more of your podcasts through out the year. I also learned of your podcast by listening to Annies. I have never yet even attempted to make a quilt, but if I continue to listen to you, Annie and Alison I just might actually make one!

  13. Michael J. Villalovos says:

    Kelley,
Thank you for your podcast. I am new to quilting and your first podcast provided a book that I should read and learn from and I picked it up. You have a great speaking tone and listening to you is easy and looked forward to. I have listened to you from the start and enjoy your charisma and excitement about quilting.
I hope your daughter is doing well after her teeth incidents and tooth fairy visit. Keep up the good work.

    Thank you,

    Myql V

  16. Daren Ann says:

    Hi Kelley,
Love your podcast. I look fwd to hearing about your quilting projects and think you have tons of talent – both in the tech world and quilting world.
My friend was a vendor at America’s Sewing and Quilting expo, so when you mentioned the dates, I knew her whereabouts. We have a club called the Pioneer Women’s Club of the Brown County Historical Society here in Nashville Indiana. You would love the quilters in it. They hand quilt a donation quilt every year to raise money for the Hist. Soc. If you are in this area – we would love for you to visit with us.
I hope your daughter is on the mend. I used to make teeth and now I quilt. I imagine her permanent teeth will come in-time will fly! Best wishes, Daren Ann
Please enter me in your giveaway. Thank you.
